Between Heaven and Earth Part 3
Over the course of the last three years, the Palestine Red Crescent Society (PRCS), while carrying out its humanitarian mission, has been operating under extremely different conditions of siege, curfew and live fire. Repeated exposure to war related deaths and injuries has resulted in widespread emotional and psychological trauma to ambulance teams, volunteers, and humanitarian personnel.
As of November 2003, The total recorded attacks on PRCS ambulances during current crisis is 266 causing serious damage to many of the vehicles(28 beyond); 1115 violations and restrictions of ambulance access have occured; 80 PRCS ambulance teams with a total of 192 ambulance personnel injured; 3 PRCS medical staff and ambulance teams have been killed.
The PRCS Emergency Medical Servicds (EMS) Stress Management Program was initiated in November 2001 to provide psychological support services to EMS staff, volunteers and their families who may be experiencing post-traumatic stress and other stress and anxiety related symptoms as a result of the conflict. The Stress Management Program helps to maintain a fully functioning national PRCS Emergency Medical Service, in order to service the needs of the Palestinian public.
This documentary provides a unique and intimate look at some of the psychological stresses PRCS Ambulance teams and volunteers experience as they continue to carry out their humanitarian mission.
