(Al Bireh-12/5/2025):
On the occasion of World Red Cross and Red Crescent Day (May 8), the Palestine Red Crescent Society (PRCS) organized a silent march to call for the protection of medical teams and humanitarian workers. The event featured a symbolic funeral honoring the society’s martyrs since the onset of the assault on Gaza. Since the beginning of this year, the PRCS has lost eight medics, targeted by Israeli forces in Rafah in March while carrying out their humanitarian duty to rescue the wounded. This attack—one of the deadliest—claimed the lives of 15 humanitarian workers, including PRCS personnel. In total, 48 medical and humanitarian staff from the PRCS have been killed since the start of the assault on Gaza.
More than 1,500 people gathered at Martyr Yasser Arafat Square in Ramallah, where participants issued an urgent appeal to the international community to ensure the protection of medical and humanitarian workers in Palestine. PRCS volunteers held banners bearing the images of the society’s fallen members.
Hundreds of volunteers and staff, dressed in Red Crescent uniforms, marched silently to the PRCS headquarters in Al-Bireh, carrying 48 symbolic coffins representing the organization’s martyrs from the West Bank and Gaza Strip.
