Palestine Red Crescent Society Condemns Deliberate Targeting of Its Headquarters in Khan Younis, Resulting in the Death of One of Its Employees
Al Bireh /Gaza – 3 August 2025– The Palestine Red Crescent Society (PRCS) strongly condemns the deliberate targeting of its headquarters in Khan Younis, Gaza, by the occupying Israeli forces last night. The attack claimed the life of one staff member, injured two others, and wounded a civilian who was attempting to help extinguish the fire.
Shortly after midnight, Israeli artillery directly struck the upper floors of the Society’s building. As PRCS teams were evacuating staff and inspecting the damage, the second floor was hit again, followed by direct shelling of the ground floor—precisely while rescue teams were fighting the blaze caused by the bombing. The repeated strikes during evacuation and rescue operations clearly demonstrate that the shelling was deliberate and systematic.
Despite being clearly marked with the internationally recognized Red Crescent emblem, the building was deliberately targeted by Israeli forces. This is a blatant breach of international humanitarian law, which strictly safeguards and protects medical facilities, Red Cross/Red Crescent personnel, and the Red Crescent emblem during armed conflicts
PRCS holds the international community fully responsible for its continued silence in the face of ongoing violations targeting its personnel, facilities, and ambulances—despite the emblem’s clear protection under law.
Since the start of the war on Gaza, 51 staff and volunteers of the PRCS in Gaza were killed by Israel, including 29 who lost their lives while performing humanitarian duties.
The PRCS renews its urgent plea to the international community and UN institutions to take immediate and decisive action: to ensure protection of humanitarian teams operating in Palestine, compel respect for the Red Crescent emblem; and guarantee safety of civilians, medical personnel, and humanitarian workers as enshrined in the Geneva Conventions and international law.
